I started with my triathlon journey 3 years ago after being introduced to the sport by some friends.
In this technology advanced world we lived in, I naturally looked up my ‘good friend’ – Google, to ‘get advice’ on triathlon training.
After a few races, I realised that it is not working. With the internet, I am getting information from all over the places but I am not sure whether am I following the right stuff, and I was not able to get feedback, or any corrective advice. But most importantly, there were no ‘personal touch’ at all. And so, I decided to seek professional help. Other than a triathlete coach to put up a structured plan for me to follow, I have also wanted nutrition advice as it is an important part of a race.
I reached out to Elvia after hearing some positive feedback from fellow triathletes about what she has done for them.
I started my nutrition planning with Elvia 5 to 6 weeks before my race. As a Age Grouper, I have to balance work and training. Elvia was understanding in this area and was very accommodating to my schedule.
Elvia first set up an appointment with me to gather the necessary information about my fitness, my past races, my current nutrition details etc. With these information, she worked out an initial nutrition plan for me to follow during my training. Elvia does not dictate me to follow what works for her but instead allow me to continue on my current nutrition gels/powders/drinks.
Then she will adjust my nutritions intake and if need to, advice on the type of alternative nutritions, base on my feedback. I find this useful as I am able to adjust accordingly until I find something that I am comfortable with.
Being a triathlete herself, Elvia understand the importance of balancing proper training, nutrition and recovery. Other than nutrition, she also gave advice on proper recovery for myself.
I have never knew what is proper recovery until now and I started to see improvement in the quality of my training. In fact, many times, she has to ‘order’ me to eat and rest properly!
A couple of weeks before the race, Elvia would get the race details from me to analyse them, and then provided a detailed nutrition plan for me to practise during my training. I have to practise at which point of my bike and run that I should be taking my gels, my liquids, my salt etc. And she will adjusted the nutrition plan accordingly after my feedback after every training.
I find this very useful as I am able to practise my nutrition according to the race course, and it took all the nutrition planning out of my mind, and allow me to really focus on my training as well as my race. And she never forgets to remind me to also take note of my recovery after each training session.
I am glad that I seek Elvia’s help for my nutrition planning. I am thankful that I have someone that I can reach out to for proper guidance on nutrition and recovery, which allows me to train and race better. I am looking forward to working with her again to fine tune my nutrition and recovery strategy in my future races.
